THE GEANT OF THE OCEAN
Enormous shadoww just beneath the water surface looms upwards and bursts into view, only to disappear again wheezing loudly and spraying water .when a blue whale weighing as much as an empty 747and with a tail fin as wide as an over seas container is swimming directly beside your boat ,it is pretty impressive, believe me! If you’re lucky, you can see some amazing things when you go «whale watching».
Did you know:whales live in water but they are actually mammals! They breathe through their lungs and haveto surface from time to time to take in air .when they come up for air, they firsthave to get rid of used air .that’s what they are doing when they spurt great fountains of water just before they surface .there are whales just about every sea and ocean around the world .there are certain whales that even live in large rivers .around 80different types of whales are known to date .they range in size from the one-metre long Hector’s dolphins to the over 30-metre long blue whales, which is the largest animal that even lived on our earth(bigger even than the largest dinosaurs we know!).a blue whales, weighs between 80-130 tons whichis the equivalent of the weight of 1500 people or 140 cars.
